I received my sample of Blue Wonder Armadillo today. I have not tried it on anything as of yet but want to let you know it arrived.

The product is an yellowish wax and is packaged in a small plastic screw top container. It has a slight odor but nothing offensive. The instructions are simple and well written and have a series of 12 questions that the company would like answered on the back.

Thank you DVNovum and the boys at Blue Wonder.

Post your results here and don't start another thread. Thanks

Novum Solutions, inc. through member DVNovum offered to send out test samples of a new product they are developing, code name "ARMADILLO". B/W Armadillo is a wax, for lack of a better description, that is to be applied on the exterior of firearms to help prevent rusting in conditions that preclude constant care.

The company also produces a bore cleaner under the name of "Blue Wonder" that works very well, both in removing bore fouling and surface rust. As well as several other products.

Some where in this forum is DV's announcement regarding the give-away of the test samples.

I recieved my test sample after I got home from Thanksgiving. I just recieved a pair of Brend fixed blades that I'm going to apply some of it on.

I'll also test it out on one of my pistols here soon too.

I'll chime in here when I find out more about it.

I also received my container of Armadillo thursday the 5Th.
I have already started testing the product on serveral differant type of guns and finishes.
The first thing I will say is that there is very little odor, which is not a unpleasent smell. The consistancy is maybe a little to thick, but I need to get use to waxing my guns more. I did not recieve the tiny buffer to use with the product.:)
I will report back later with the results of how the product performed and my opinions.

Received my Armadillo in the mail yesterday and I tried it on the outside of my Parkerized pistol. I really like the way it polished up! It almost looks blued! I then used it on the wood stock of an old Winchester Model 69A with a well worn finish. The Armadillo brought the finish back to a shine that was actually surprising. The smell reminds me slightly of mink oil. The product does not leave a sticky residue, but a rather smooth finish witout being slippery. Water just runs off. The paste is a little too thick and you don't want to get too much on your checkering as you have to use a toothpck to get it out. With the same toothpick it is easy to remove from the stampings though. I would think this product would also help reduce wear from holsters too as there is less friction. Thin it down just a tad bit and maybe put it in a squeeze bottle and I think you have a winner. Thanks for letting me test this product.;)

Well, I applied B/W Armadillo to eight blue steel magazines. The consistancy of the product is a little stiffer than I'd like but it is workable. It seemed to have a slight cleaning property since the application cloth I used ended up with black stains on it. After the BWA clouded up I buffed as per the instructions. The magazines feel a little slicker.

As a test I put two of them in an open top mag carrier and went to remove snow. The magazines got wet during that job and the water/snow beaded up on the surface of the mags. After a wipe down, I could see no change in the appearance of the magazines. However the water/snow did not have a change to sit long enough for rust to form.

I noticed that the magazines appear to be somewhat easier to eject.

BWA seems to be a economical product to use since I did not use that much waxing the 8 magazines. As to the consistancy, perhaps if one warmed the product by placing the container in a bowl of hot water it would be easier to get out of the tub and on the applicator.

After I recieved the test sample of Armadillo I tried to think of ways I could use it. My guns are all keeped LNIB so there was no old finishes to try and restore.

The first thing I did was apply the product to my highly Polished blued Colt 1911, and was very satisfied with the results. It left the pistol with a smooth slick feel that resisted finger prints very well. I would guess that this is some type of a silicon based product.

The next trial was my Ruger GP-100 in Stainless Steal. I was extremly pleased with the final results. Armadillo made the brushed S.S. finish look very uniform and brighten it up. I also notice that cleaning the cylinder face was a little easier after a couple applications of Armadillo.

One other place I tried Armadillo was on one of my defensive shot Gun's, it did a great job of laying down a shiny, smooth, water repellent finish. I noticed the biggest gain in apperace on the heat hardend parts.

I like the way my guns looked after an application of Armadillo. I think its a very good product with several uses.
I agree that the product is slightly too hard.

Whoops,

I worked some Blue Armadillo onto 5 of my 1911 mags and took some shooting with and without the Blue Armadillo. I also worked some onto a Brend blade.

I'll post the results when I get back from the busy holidays. Sorry I forgot to post the results.

Well, guys it appears that our testing of Armadillo did some good as it is being offered for sale. I found it in the latest Dillon's Blue Press.

Ross T, we are still waiting for your test results. :D :p

Info Direct From Blue Wonder

If your sample of Blue Wonder Armadillo seems like it is too brittle or dry...it is supposed to be that way.
The only way that they could get it to leave that super ultra-hard & tough wax coat was to not have it be too creamy in the jar. This info is from the chemist at Blue Wonder.

LOL! Whoops.........

The mags that had the Blue Armadillo on it functioned fine I didn't really notice a difference between the mags with with Blue A. on it and without. I thought maybe they would be much easier to clean but I never really had a problem cleaning my mags anyways. They did seem to be a lot slickerier {proper word???}

The Brends are still looking awesome after the application and I feel that they are protecting my bladed investments rather well.

I would recommend Novum's products especially the Blue Wonder. Helped a shooting buddy clean his 1911 this weekend and he was floored at how clean and easy it was to get his barrel squeaky clean. I'm pretty sure he'll be putting an order in pronto. He did ask a pretty interesting question though, "Why do they call it Blue wonder.......it isn't blue?" I didn't know how to answer it. Anyone care to enlighten us?

Ordered some of the bore cleaner today, was really surprised when less than five minutes later I got an email saying it had shipped already.
