I am just starting to get into USPSA and I am suffering through the 8-100 week wait time for a Caspian frame and slide so I am curious why the STI 2011 is so much more popular that the Caspian High-Cap in USPSA right now. I would think that the extra weight of the metal frame would make it more balanced. So I am curious about things such as:

max capacity of the 2011 and the Caspian in 38 Super & .40 S&W.
Weight empty and fully loaded of each
cost of each
anything else you think pertinent

During the assault weapons ban, sti sold replacement mag tubes, Caspian refused and it cost them, it's hard to sell guns, if you can't get mags for them

Sti's hold more rounds,
In super, the caspians 170mm mags holds 28, the sti 29-30,Johnny lim told he has a mag that holds 32
In 40, caspian holds 18, sti 21
The weight of the gun depends on how it was built, bull or bushing barrel, slide lightening, slide length etc
Caspian's will be a few ounces heavier than the same setup in a sti
But caspian feels balanced in the hand, the sti's feel muzzle heavy
Sti, svi, trinity Phoenix and freedom firearms are all selling stainless steel grips that mimic the feel of the caspians frame

And that grip, IMO, just makes the gun heavier and screws up the balance, for me. Besides, balance is a fleeting thing. If it feels balanced with 22 rounds of .40 in the magwell, is it going to be balanced when you only have 6 rounds left?

I don't know of a 140mm .40 caliber STI mag that gets 22 rounds. I've seen tuned STI mags that held 21 but they were nonreloadable. With severe tuning, you can get 21 but you generally have to buy some different basepads and a different tube to get 22. At a cost of about $200 each. And I've got two.:bawling:

If Johnny Lim has a 32 round open mag that fit the gauge, he'd be selling them like hot cakes. That means most open shooters could complete just about any COF without reloading. You and I both know they'd all be ponying up for those.

Yes, and I was amazed they got away with it. How could they say with a straight face under oath that they did not know people were assembling "high capacity ammunition feeding devices" out of those "replacement" parts? And USPSA in court with them for suborning a federal felony. Maybe the feds were too ignorant to set up a sting at a shooting match where magazine kits were openly on sale.

Johnny told me he has A mag (as in 1) that hold 32 rounds and works in his gun
also I don't know where you got 22 rounds in a mag from, I said 21 in a sti

the weight of the gun is a individual thing, I like heavy guns, but I lighten them as I see fit, my open guns has a lightened slide, light brazos comp, a wiegend plastic guide rod and a alum magwell and weighs around 52 ounces
I know that's a boat anchor to you, but I like it

I also know sti and svi shooters that take their light guns then add a bunch of weight to them, heavy tungsten guide rods, brass magwells, and steel grips and make them feel like my caspian
