I've been reading this enhance FS, 1911A1 FS... Does FS meant Full Shroud?

I have a Taurus 4 inch barrel with Half Shroud.

Vega,

I think it only means Full Size in much the same way MS means Mid-size and CS means Compact? size. The enhanced models (EFS, EMS, ECS) only differ from the older FS, MS and CS models (like the ones available in PI)due to the new Novak-style lo-mount rear sights. Check it out (if you already haven't done so) at www.charlesdaly.com

BTW, I'm one step closer to getting the MS. I only need the Gun Safety Seminar results from Jethro to begin processing of my license. Got the local clearances yesterday. Thanks again for the help!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think "shrouds" in this sense only refer to revolvers.. i.e. the portion of metal under the revolver's barrel which houses the ejector? Not totally sure though.

Vega,

Finally got all my requirements together (phew! after so many weeks!) after dropping by at Jethro main branch in SF Del Monte. I got tired of waiting for 'em to deliver my Gun Clube Certificate and Gun Safety Seminar Cert. to their Festival mall branch. At least my wife and I got to see their outdoor range. You were right, the location is kinda in a not so good neighborhood - but hey, that's Quezon City for you. After spending some time in the range shop (I bugged the gunsmith and did some canvassing), I then hopped on over to Squires in Ortigas and paid for the pistol. My final choice - an EFS .45 caliber (it will come with the snag-free sights) in simple blue. I'd rather spend the extra money on Hogue wraparounds than on a two-tone or SS job. I should get it in 2-3 weeks! I can't wait! I think the transport permit Jethro will get for me will allow me to shoot in all their ranges (Festival, Mabini and SFDM).

The smith at Jethro main advised me to replace some of my stock parts after my warranty expires or when they fail whichever comes first. He advised that I change the barrel link (Wilson Combat), extractor (Caspian), and add a full-length guide rod (forgot which brand they had in stock).
But for now, if nothing turns out wrong with it, he said I should just leave it be. I also got to see an SVI up close. I feel like a kid expecting a new toy! I can't wait! Maybe I'll go to the range later and work off my excitement on their rental guns!

Vega,

Had another round of last minute indecision and called up my dealer and asked if it was too late to have my pistol changed to a two-tone model. He said, "No problem"! I wanted it to be like yours and Baldo's although I will probably still get black Hogue wraparounds instead of wood grips. Or maybe black micarta would be nice...?

Hope I still have money for ammo after all this indecision.

I'm still a bit apprehensive about the possibilty of getting a lemon although the new models I handled at Squires seemed very tight. I followed the advice from some of the previous posts here and wiggled the pistols up, down and sideways. All three models (EFS, EMS, and ECS) I handled seemed pretty tight. No untoward slide to frame movement at all. Slide pull was crisp and smooth. It was firm enough but not too stiff that even my wife could pull it. I also examined the pistols closely for tool marks. Only one of the pistols had some small markings near the front sights but otherwise it was okay. As for casting marks, I found some on the hammer inside face of the EFS. However, they weren't as bad as the ones shown in a picture posted by WP. There were no deep pits - they just weren't mirror-perfect. All in all, I guess if my pistol will shoot half as good as some of the positive posts in this forum indicated (which is probably many times better that I actually can shoot right now) I'd would be satisfied with my purchase. Now if I can only make it through the waiting period... :p

Hi malmon,

Is this your first pistol? You must be very excited already. Don't know about the enhanced models but mine (older model) came with a weak recoil spring so I changed it with a Wolff variable 16.5 lbs. After that, I didn't experience any FTFs. I also changed the extractor with a Caspian unit just for my peace of mind although I didn't find anything wrong with the OEM part.

Good luck.

malmon,

Glad you finally made up your mind. Don't change any parts yet. You must be itching by now. Could you still sleep?

Ask for a catalog from your dealer. Don't settle for the small one. That way you'll be eyeing your next purchase. I think the Melt Down model will be available this year. Can I have your wooden grip?

Baldo, JB and Vega,

Thanks for the kind words. I need all I can during this excruciating waiting period for my license to be proessed and my gun to be released. According to my dealer, the gun will be deposited at Camp Crame (GHQ of the Phil. Nat'l Police, JB) as per PNP SOP. It'll only be released once my license is done. And yes, this IS my first pistol. So I guess you can imagine my excitement. Don't get me wrong, I've fired pistols many times in the past but it's different when its really yours. Besides, all that trouble I went through just getting the license requirements together makes me even more excited to finally get it. It took me almost a month just to get those papers together.

I think I'll fire a couple of boxes through the pistol first before I change stuff just to see what needs to be changed. I've already canvassed for some aftermarket parts as I mentioned in my previous posts. Baldo, the Wolf 16.5 variable springs are lighter than the stock recoil springs right?

Sorry Vega, but I ordered the black plastic grips, I think they look better on a two-tone.
Image
I'm planning to replace them with either black rubber Hogue wraparounds or black micarta. Vega/Baldo, would you know where I can get Hogue wraparounds for singlestacks, maybe the one with finger grooves? I know Jethro distributes them over here, but they only had them for Paras and other Hi-caps.

Vega,

Oh yeah, i saw the meltdown model you mentioned. It looks like a Milspec Gov't. Model (stock hammer, trigger, slide release) with smoother curves and a nice glossy (think wet look) black finish. It had none of the fancy front slide serrations of the FS models but it did look pretty nice. Purists and MilSpec 1911 collectors would love it.

Yo Vega,

Could you post or mail me the locations for True Weight and Strong hand? I haven't heard of these two shops yet but i do plan on vsiting PB Dionisio along Roces in Q.C. which is like only two blocks away from my sister's place.

BTW, any news on the PTC? A dealer said it would cost around 4K/year although they said that price includes "pampadulas" already which is a guarantee it'll be approved. My cousin got his for half that price two years ago I think. He said you just have to set aside a whole day to apply for it and be willing to endure the long lines.

Thanks!

Hey Baldo, Malmon and Vega,
Kabayans, is it really that hard to own firearms in the Philippines? Maybe we can hook up when I go on vacation there. I remember how easy it was to own firearms when I used to live there, I guess it's different now. As for me, I am still contemplating about buying a 1911. I have several pistols and couple of AR15s. The posts about 1911's unreliability is scaring me off right now. Maybe someday. MABUHAY

malmon,

Strong Hand is about three blocks from PBDionosio. Its on the other side of the street.

Strong Weight is along Aranete Ave. QC. Coming from Cubao along E. Rodriguez Ave., you turn right at Araneta. It's on the left side. You make a U-turn at Funeraria Paz.

As for PTC the regular cost is P4k. If the dealer said "pampadulas" is already included that's bull. Since you're a member of Jethro, let them process it for you.

If your cousin got his for 2k then that must be a bogus one. The cost then was 3k. There are lot of fake PTCs before Lacson's time. If you're going to get a PTC make sure the dealer will give you the orinal receipt from Land Bank.

Two of the requirements for getting one are pictures of you during the Gun Safety exam and actual firing. And the bull of all bull, Certificate from your local PNP that you have a threat on your life. There's no guarantee that you'll have a PTC.

Let's hope that Mendoza will loosen up with the requirements.

Hi NT45,

Which part of the earth do you live? Owning a firearm is easy, its the process of you'll go thru that's hard. Even renewing is hard. I believe the process then was automatic. You'll just have to go to Crame to get the renewed license.

Don't let these negative posts veer you away from 1911. I don't know what you meant by "unreliability". My first handgun is a DAO pistol. I didn't fell in love with my 1911 at first sight.

Could you post a pic of your AR15 on this board? Too bad us law abiding citizens could not own a rifle higher than 22LR.

MABUHAY!

Sorry about an incomplete post, I hit the enter key by mistake.

As I was about to say, NewToy45 you're a very lucky guy. A couple of AR15? Over here we're not allowed to own any automatic rifle. You even have the chance to purchase a Springfield or a Kimber. Some guys have all the luck. Looking forward to the pictures of your toys.
