I bought a Charles Daly EFS three days ago. I pick it up next Monday. I would like some input from you CD owners out there on your likes and dislikes about this gun. Do the factory mags function well, or should I replace them with Wilsons or the like?

i use wilson's and cmc maggs and i also have military and so far so good. all seem to work well. all ammo bullet designs work. itleast the ones i have tried. i would like to suggest firing 2or3 hundred rounds of ball to kinda break it in. as long as ammo used is in proper specs, you shouldnt have much if any problems. as far as cd goes the extractor are cast and will need replaced in the near future, most of us cd owners replace them right away. esspecially if it's a carry gun are duty gun. i find mine dependable and accurate. keep us posted on range reports are for information are just to shoot the breez

Thanks for the info James Beam.

I've been away from the 1911 world for a couple of years due to having to carry Gocks and Beretta's on duty

. I've owned a Colt Series 70 and a Springfield in the past. I really missed the 1911 and thought the CD would be a good value. I can't wait to get to the range with it!

Hi. Welcome to CD Forum. Congrats on your purchase. We'd be expecting some range report from you. I own a CD Hi-cap in 9mm. I don't have any problem with factory mags. I have problem with my extractor as jb said (after about 800 rounds). I want to replace it with wilson but the smithy is charging me $50. I don't know if its reasonable. Well, this is not a carry gun so I think I'll pass for now. Hope you'll enjoy your new toy.

jb - Hi! Is it possible to adjust a cast extractor? Sorry for this stupid question

vega you can adjust a cast extractor, but do it carefully, the are kinda prone to breakage. you can bye a ed brown wilsons and chipmc.cormicks extractor for $30 and under. i just came from your post, and i failed to mention it. also you can install your own extractor, its easy to do. and doesnt require any special tools. if you havent already bought a 1911 how too's book already i would suggest doing so. it's good reading and very helpful. you'll save alot of money. this gun is easy to work on. that is another reasion that it is a superior design. military field soldiers could do ther own repairs therselfs, even out in the field.

and you'll learn the mecanics of your side arm in the process, its valuable to you and others who own such a fine shooting iron to know these things. and with a little practice. you be at your best on the shooting range. or in a defensive shooting situation. people who work and shoot with the own personal side arm. has pride and comfort in knowing he can depend on his side arm. i was going to keep this short

The factory mags are mecgars and they work fine for me. The wood grips are a definite improvement over the previous plastic grips of the non-enhanced models. The same goes for the lo-mount sights. Have fun!

Other than I don't like extended slide stops (mine has been shortened), the trigger is my only complaint.

The fit is sloppy, it's not adjustable, and basically looks like crap. That's easy to fix for $20 or so with a Wilson triger(or any one of a dozen other makers).

I've been using 4 factory mags quite a bit lately with no complaints. It also likes Wilson, USGI, and CM mags.

Take the cast extractor out of the gun and throw it out of your car window while driving at high speed on the interstate. It will land in a place appropriate for cast extractors(anywhere but in your gun).

Replace it with a quality extractor from Ed Brown, Wilson, etc... Be aware that it will stick out the back of the slide about 1/16". Use a file and some cold blue to make things look right although it will function just fine with no filing.

If you don't like littering while driving fast on the interstate, then keep that cast extractor for an emergency spare. Just throw the trigger away...

Thanks for all the great info. I ordered an Ed Brown extractor from Brownell's yesterday along with a couple of CM mags. I'll order a Wilson trigger soon also. Only a few days until I pick up my CD and head to the range. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Damn the gun grabbers for making me wait!

I'll let everyone know how my first range session goes in a few days.
