I've done a search on subject pistol. Some have mentioned a long trigger pull. Most have been satisfied. My daughter and I were casually looking at carry pistols, and she seemed to like this one. She's a fairly good shooter and wants a magazine-fed autoloader. Her budget is not very large.

Is the trigger pull on this pistol as long and as heavy (8 lbs or so) as it is on my KelTec P11? How reliable is the PT111, 9mm?

Any comments, good or bad, on this pistol would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Merry Christmas.

Hi Dr. J!! I've got a Taurus PT111 for my carry. I love it!! The trigger pull is a little long on the first round, it's a DA/SA pistol. But it's not hard to get used to or overly long for a pull on this type of pistol. The trigger pull isn't my Kimber Grand Raptor II but I don't expect it to be. One of the things I love about it is that it has the same sights, functionality of my other polymer pistol. I also have a 24/7 Pro in .40. I've found my PT111 to be one of my favorites. We initially bought it to be Hubby's carry, but once I shot it, I fell in love with it. I ran over 50% of the initial break in rounds thru it, and I'm sold on this gun. It's surprisingly accurate for a short, light carry and recoil is very manageable for a lady shooter. I'm waiting for my permit to come in now, should be any day. I took Christmas as an opportunity to move my hubby over to a .357 snubby revolver and claimed the PT111 for myself! :biglaugh: He didn't object at all. LOL Ours had the 500 rounds for a break in period run thru it, it never hiccuped at all. That is in addition to a few hundred practice rounds after the break in period. I've had very good success with all of my Taurus guns, despite a lot of bad rep they get from a lot of consumers. I've got several, never had any issues. IMO it's a great pistol for a lady, especially one who shoots on a fairly regular basis. Merry Christmas to you and your family!!

I have a PT145 Mil Pro same pistol in 45 ACP. I have been satisfied with it. The reason it has a 'long' trigger pull is because it is a single action with a double action back up. So the long pull has virtually no resistance until you reach the true S/A trigger point. I think it is a good system if more people understood it. If the round fails to fire then you have a reg double action pull for a second try. The second strike is debate able and I hope this doesn't become a thread like that.

So to recap this is a S/A pistol!

It also has a thumb safety like our beloved 1911. I have shot tons of ammo through mine, ball, HP, Golden Saber, Hydra-Shok with zero issues. The 45s had some issue a few yrs back but that was really a mag issue that has been resolved. The 9s and 40s have been very good from the people I know that actual have the gun instead of the web bashers. I bought my father the 24/7 Pro in 45 and it has a better trigger (no trigger slap) than the millennium. My Mil Pro as some trigger slap. Not real bad but you would not want to spend all day at the range with it. The 24/7 is available in a compact size and I think it has the ribber/ rubber grip. She may want to check it out too. All in all I really like the pistol. Bang for the buck it is hard to beat... Really... no kidding. I traded off a Kahr 9 mill for mine. I don't regret it one bit. The Kahr was very moody as to how the mag was loaded.

I think this has a much better trigger than the P11. I have only shot a one P11 and it was very gritty.

Just wanted to add one more thing in an effort to clarify. The 24/7, OSS, and Millennium are based on the same system with a more or less the same features. You are getting a full size system with the Millenniums.

The original 24/7 and Millenniums were DAO
The Pro designates SA/DA

PS they have GREAT Heinie Straight 8 sights!

EDIT: Merry Christmas!

I have a PT11 Millenium that I purchased the first year they came out. Overall, it is a pretty good gun for the price I paid (I recall around $275 several years back). It is a DAO gun and has a very long and somewhat heavy trigger. I have tried the new versions and the trigger seems much better. I make sure the gun is stripped, thoroughly cleaned, and well lubed and it works well. Lubing the guts with RemOil or another CLP makes the trigger pull much better.

As for shooting, it is pretty good at 5-7 yards. After that, accuracy is not great. With the long trigger pull, I tend to pull the round down and to the left some. I cured most of this by adding a mag pinky finger extension and it helped a lot. I don't think this would be as big of an issue with the new PT111s (they already have the pinky finger extension).

Recoil is not bad for a light gun shooting 115g bullets.

The pistol is pretty lightweight and would be good for carrying. I don't every recall having jams (there may have been a few) and I have shot all kinds of new and reloaded ammo through mine. I consider it to be very reliable.

If you can pick one up cheap, I think they are worth it.

Out!
