Both of my trucks have fold down center consoles. My gun in long trips rides under the fold down console. It fits nicely. Sometimes I use a small gun bag (the ones that hold 4 mags = a gun) and place mine in that just in front of my seat if I have more than myself in the truck.

 

I have thought of that but I want a more dedicated place, with a mounted holster.

 

I got a left handed holster and mounted it on the center console of my car. I made a flap of black felt (interior is black) attached with velcro that covers the gun and with the tinted windows it is almost impossible to identify it as a gun from the outside.

 

I have a great spot. But I can't tell you where. It would take some serious searching to find it. But I can get it in seconds..

As with any carry method, make sure to check your local laws!

 

I screwed a cheap uncle mikes kydex holster to the bottom of my dash. You'd have to get on your knees and look under dash to find it. Also placed just right for a draw from the drivers seat.

 

Gun Magnet

There is a Neodymium Magent available called The Gun Magnet. Gander use to carry them. I always wear a shoulder holster (Bianchi X-15) which has always worked well.

 

I know it isn't exactly what you're talking about, but I recall reading about a small pistol safe that locks into a bracket bolted into your vehicle. does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I have one in my truck. It is VERY well built, and comes with hardware to bolt down through your center console mounting holes and in to the floor pan of the vehicle. I installed mine in less than 5 minutes, and since the screws are locked inside, I think it is fairly safe. That said, I still rarely leave my gun inside my truck.
I leave my gun on my person when driving, that way I know if I am armed, in case of an accident, I get pulled out of the vehicle unexpectedly, or run in to a store. Sometimes on long trips I will pull out of my IWB and wedge in between the seats or put in console vault, but I have made it a habit of getting the gun ready as I pull off the highway.

I've had a Kingston Car Seat Holster by DeSantis in my truck since I got my CCL. You have to cinch that sucker down TIGHT to keep it from shifting, but when you're in the seat it's impossible to detect. Not as permanent as some of the other options, but that also means you can swap from one vehicle to another rather quickly.

I carry in my IWB to the truck, move the weapon to the car holster once I'm safely behind my tinted windows, then transition back to the IWB before exiting. If I'm going someplace where I'm not allowed to carry, the weapon is locked in the center console before I exit the truck.
